As the weather finally begins to cool down and show signs of fall… I figured this would be a good time for another edition of “5 things I’m into!”
Truthfully, I’m not super into all of the pumpkin-flavored-treats in the fall. (Mike loves it all- baked goods, candy, coffee, candles, etc.) HOWEVER, I do LOVE a hot pumpkin spice latte. I have even been told I am “basic”, but if basic means a warm PSL, then I am as basic as they come! I wait all year to order one the first week it’s out. Morning, afternoon, night… don’t care. It’s so comforting and warm. And I’m not picky- I like it from Starbucks, Panera, wherever… but pumpkin spice flavor in my coffee? Yes, please!
This time of year my DVR goes from having 60% space available to 17% space available because everything I like is on TV! I love the return of my show seasons, but it can be hard to keep up! What am I watching?
Well, my number one is Grey’s Anatomy. I just love it. Even though it’s the same drama every time, I really can’t get enough. I also watch Scandal (but feeling like it’s definitely ready to come to an end). I started watching the Good Doctor which is new this year, but it’s a really good show. Then there’s This Is Us, I mean, come on, you know it’s good too. I also follow Dancing with the Stars, Madam Secretary and Once Upon a Time. And the Walking Dead is about to start back up! Mike has been recording some of the new Marvel shows, I just haven’t gotten hooked, yet.
And then there’s stupid TV that I watch- the reality shows. These are my guilty pleasures, my watch-while-I’m-doing-something-else-at-the-same-time sows: Teen Mom, the Challenge, Are You the One, Real Housewives of the OC, and Ellen.
It really is too much TV to be watching and I don’t have time for it, which is why the DVR is overflowing.
This isn’t new, because I always love music. Recently, I have been obsessed with Tori Kelly’s Hallejuah… I just keep replaying it in the car. It’s such a beautiful song and I really love her voice. If you haven’t heard it, go take a listen.
I am also loving Logic’s 1-800-273-8255. This is the song that promotes suicide awareness. I have been thinking a lot about mental health recently- mine and everyone else’s. It is so important to take care of yourself: not just physically, but mentally. So many people feel the impact of some type of mental illness whether it be depression, anxiety, OCD, etc. It is such a taboo topic to discuss, but why? The best solution is to talk about and ask for help. I have been thinking about this with some of my middle schoolers because this can be a vulnerable time in their lives. I saw Logic perform this song on Ellen (see the benefit of watching fall TV!) and felt really empowered by it. This has been on the radio a lot recently, but if you haven’t heard it, take a couple of minutes out of your day for this.
Mike is turning 30 at the end of the week! I am planning a beer-themed type of celebration so we have a beer/dinner pairing and a party and all kinds of stuff going on. I have been running around getting decorations and a cake. It’s a big birthday, so I want to make sure we are doing it right! At the end of the year, it will be my chance to turn 29, again.
Happy birthday to my other half!!
Not working too hard
Last year I was exhausted all the time which seemed normal as a new teacher. This year, I want to work on having a better work/life balance. I have even left my work computer at work some days! Progress!
I am trying to go into work early, be more efficient, and not stress about it too much. It is important to realize that things do not have to be perfect and I have plenty of time to get things done. I am trying not to do grading/work at home this year. (Other than work for the classes that I am taking for certification.) I have still been checking and responding to email at home, because I cannot handle the list to read through in the mornings and I don’t want to be surprised by a meeting the day of.
Unfortunately, this ‘not working too hard’ is carrying over to other aspects of my life! I need to get my house cleaned up, weed the yard, bathe the dogs, donate some old junk, go to the gym…. I’m still a work in progress!
This is how relaxed I want to be:
Anyways, that’s what I’m into right now! Expect to hear all about Mike’s birthday extravaganza in Sunday’s post. 🙂
