Let’s talk about that October day when a handsome boy came into my life that rivaled my love for my S.O.
It was early in the morning and I saw him across the airport. I walked over and asked the woman he was with if she would mind… I reached for him and without hesitation, he kissed me! I was completely, irrevocably, and unconditionally in love with him from that moment on.
Today, he lives with us, even sleeps in between us! I kiss him good morning and good night.
I told you he was handsome!
Zeus is my soon-to-be-one-year-old Weimaraner/Dane mix.
I met Zeus while volunteering for a PilotsNPaws (PNP) event. If you don’t know anything about this heart-warming, non-profit you can learn more about them here. This a quick synopsis: the organization is comprised of volunteer pilots who travel the country to pick up rescue animals and relocate them (via “freedom flights”) to no-kill shelters who have room. It takes a lot to organize such a massive effort to shift adoptable animals to new cities around the country, but it is so worthwhile when you read some of their success stories.
Zeus is one of those stories for me. I was volunteering with my dad. He is one of the volunteer pilots and has been on many of these missions. I was finally able to go along, and, of course, brought this guy home! Never in my life have I felt such strong a connection to an animal. I knew he was mine instantly. And this is coming from someone who falls in love with any cute furry, feathered or flippered friend! Zeus was not scheduled to be on our plane so with my dad’s help we (politely) interrogated every pilot to find out where he would be going and talk to the shelters to arrange an adoption. The shelters are great at making sure the animals receive comprehensive health screenings and spay/netuer prior to you taking home an animal.
We introduced Zeus to our other girl at home, Zoey. And while I was nervous about them getting along… today, they are best friends. Well, siblings, I suppose. I used all the training tactics in the book: give them each towels or blankets that smell like the other dog, introduce them through a door/gate/and then freely, walk them together, etc.
Zeus loves to play chase in our backyard, loves to watch TV (dog shows and the Domino’s commercial for some strange reason), loves a good car ride, and is a serious snuggler. He loves to play with his big sister, Zoey, enjoy a pupacino from Starbucks, eat pens/highlighters (why??) and annoy our munchkin cat, Mocha. He is almost always by my side (like now, he is laying by my feet, snoring) even if I’m in the bathroom!
I love my boyfriend, Mike. And I love my main man, Zeus. Good thing it isn’t a competition….
This is not my video, but it is from our rescue flight. You will see my handsome stud just over a minute in. Another 45 seconds later, you might catch a glimpse of me putting some puppies in a crate for our plane.
Here are some other drool-worthy, heart-melting images from PilotsNPaws and their pups… I mean, come on!
